The Botija: A Lost and Found Treasure is a story where fiction and history from the Spanish Colonization period in America during the Sixteen Century intertwines. This event marks the arrival of Christopher Columbus at The Hispaniola in 1492. The island is currently known as Dominican Republic and Haiti.
The theme of the Colonization is important because it takes children from the Americas to their roots and provides a close look at why they became what they are today. The story, being told as a pastime, develops as a beautiful and exciting narrative that keeps them asking questions and longing to know more. This is a story where history, family, and imagination intertwine to bring forth our ties with our roots. The treasure found in a jar becomes the key to discoveries about their ancestors, their lives and culture. This book was written in English and translated into Spanish. I hope that parents and teachers enjoy reading this book and share it with their children and students. |

Writing for me is like meditation. You can be alone or surrounded by people, but the feelings and emotions come from within. I close my eyes and leave my thoughts and imagination meet, make turns at times, converging into a subject that interests or moves me.
Children amaze me with their natural curiosity for learning and exploring. My objective is to contribute to children’s education through stories that relate to my own childhood, along with the culture and history of my country of origin.
It is fascinating how the arts have such a big impact on kids’ learning experience. What they learn in school are the fundamentals, but what they learn through visual images along with what they see and interpret, makes their experience profound. Reading a book to a child is taking his/her hand to walk together in a world of adventure, excitement, and joy.
